Thane holds a distinguished place in Maharashtra’s economic and cultural history. To address rapid industrialization and urban population growth, the erstwhile District Superintendent Office was elevated to an independent Police Commissionerate on October 1, 1981.

Today, Thane Police Commissionerate spans 5 strategic administrative zones covering Thane City, Bhiwandi, Kalyan-Dombivli, Ulhasnagar, and Wagle Estate, operating 35 fully-equipped police stations protecting vital economic corridors.
